We're now in our Indian Summer and it’s official - we're in drought conditions.
So what's happening horse-wise?
- We're now high in humidity and with a feeling of heaviness in the air, this often mirrors the way the body feels during this period - I know I turn into a sloth when the mercury rises. This is the time to boost metabolism and cleanse the stomach - see our HerbalGutCARE below, discounted for August.
- This drought has made our grasslands even more dangerous for our at-risk meta horses. What grass there is resembles crispy sugar-sticks and even though it looks like there's none there, my three natives are bulging on it, with Murphy, my connie, laying down the typical IR fat pads already. So, they're all coming in during the day. It's off the grass and supplementing with hay, with our HerbalMetaTonic in their daily feedbowls, and we're keeping it on offer for August as well.
- This is also the time when the effects of summer pasture allergens can hit the hardest. The air is now much more humid and muggy, so the summer pasture allergens syndrome rumbles on for those affected horses, which is why we're keeping our HerbalSummerPollenTonic on offer for August.
- Still Salt, Salt & More Salt. In this heat horses will lose sodium, chloride and potassium in sweat, so up the salt volume in the feedbowl to around 5g/100kg bodyweight - all my lot are getting around 25g coarse salt to replenish these vital minerals. If you're feeding electrolytes, make sure the sodium levels are decent - if not, add extra salt.
