Product Details

KoffTonic is a gentle, organic botanical blend designed to support everyday upper-airway comfort.

Rather than suppressing the body’s responses, KoffTonic is structured to support settled breathing patterns, upper-airway comfort, and the natural rhythms that help horses feel clearer and more at ease.

Particularly useful when environmental changes, i.e. dust, dry forage, or seasonal shifts, make the natural cough reflex more active.

“A noticeable difference in comfort by the next morning!” Catherine W.

Overview

Coughing is a perfectly normal part of the equine respiratory system - a healthy reflex the body uses to clear the airways of irritations, such as dust, dry hay, bedding changes, or seasonal irritants - via mucus, the lungs' natural secretion.

Sadly, there's not a lot we can do to prevent these organisms invading, but we need them shifted out before they start replicating and turning into an infection.

Why support the cough reflex?

Coughing agitates the clearance of mucus, the lungs’ natural secretion, which acts as a barrier to trap and remove irritants. The intention is not to suppress this natural reflex, but to enhance expectoration - the capacity to bring mucus up – as effective as it can be.

For the latest respiratory insights, see our main Respiration page in the Advice Centre above.

Is KoffTonic Right for My Horse?

KoffTonic is a good fit for horses who show occasional, environmentally linked cough patterns, such as:

  • a single cough at the start of exercise
  • reactions to dust, hay particles, bedding shifts, or dry arenas
  • throat sensitivity when air is cold, dry, or stirred up
  • mild, reactive coughs that feel upper-airway rather than deep or persistent
  • horses recovering from seasonal or environmental transitions where the respiratory system feels unsettled

KoffTonic is designed for short-term, reactive patterns - not deeper, chronic airway challenges, such as:

  • ongoing coughing, or accompanied by breathing effort
  • signs persist beyond environmental triggers
  • suspected or confirmed respiratory condition requiring veterinary oversight

In these cases, BreathePlus or veterinary assessment is more appropriate.

Which blend - KoffTonic, BreathePlus, or PollenTonic?

Each supports a different part of the respiratory picture:

→ KoffTonic

Cough clearance | Throat comfort | Short-term support

Usually linked to dust, pollen, or stable irritants.

→ BreathePlus

Long-term respiratory resilience | Lung comfort | Deeper support

For more chronic, recurring, or lower-airway signs - flared nostrils/wheezing, breathing effort, heave lines, persistent cough.

→ PollenTonic

Spring comfort| Histamine moderation | Upper-airway ease

Early season pollen patterns, i.e. itchy eyes, nose rubbing, mild cough reactions.

Energetic Architecture - KoffTonic's Synergy

Energetic architecture describes how a blend is formulated to support the body’s natural processes.

KoffTonic is built around the cough–mucus–airway clearance axis- the body’s self-cleaning respiratory mechanism. It's formulated to help make the cough reflex more efficient, more comfortable, and less irritating.

Functional categories – supporting natural airway clearance

  1. Mucus mobilisation & expectoration - Inula, Verbascum, Pimpinella, Foeniculum
The blend's primary goal is to shift mucus first without stripping moisture.
  2. Airway lining & throat comfort - Althaea, Glycyrrhiza, Tussilago, Plantago
Supports the integrity and moisture of irritated mucous membranes, helping calm dryness, scratchiness, and cough-trigger sensitivity.
  3. Reflex modulation - Tussilago, Glycyrrhiza, Verbascum
Helps steady the cough reflex to remain productive rather than spasmodic or exhausting.
  4. Upper-airway mucosal tone - Plantago, Pimpinella
    Supports balanced mucosal tone.

Functional intent – what KoffTonic is designed to do

The intent is not to overload with strong aromatics, to avoids over-drying volatile oils, and favouring moist clearance over aggressive expectoration - to avoid escalating irritation.

This helps the body clear what it is trying to clear, rather than suppressing it, making expectoration easier and less irritating.

Why this works

Coughs persist when mucus is thick, tissues are dry or inflamed, and the reflex becomes reactive instead of productive.

KoffTonic is formulated to support the physiology of clearance:

  • loosen mucus
  • soothe irritated airway tissue
  • steady the cough reflex
  • support upper-airway comfort
  • avoid over-drying
