Good grass is a wonderful start, but it doesn't tell us the whole nutritional story.

" Recommended by my equine podiatrist, with one horse transitioning to barefoot and one recovering from laminitis, it’s transformed their hooves.” KG

Our horse may have lovely grazing, a good coat and plenty of energy. But even excellent pasture doesn't supply every mineral in the amounts or balance they need.

And we can't always tell just by looking at our horse.

That's where we'd look at EquiVita, our daily mineral balancer for horses on plenty of fresh grazing, combining the known deficient minerals, trace elements, amino acids and vitamin E to support healthy hooves, coat condition and everyday nutrition.

No unnecessary extras - just a straightforward way to help cover the nutritional basics.

No synthetic fillers or unnecessary additives - just the core nutrients your horse actually needs, produced to trusted quality standards.

NB. If hay makes up most of your horse's diet, VitaComplete may be the better fit.

Overview - when grass is doing most of the feeding

There's a lot to love about fresh meadow grass. It provides fibre, energy, moisture and a wonderful variety of nutrients. And for many horses, it's the mainstay of their diet throughout the growing season.

But there's one thing even the greenest field can't tell us at a glance. What's actually in it?

Mineral levels vary with soil, pasture management, plant species and growing conditions. And some important trace elements may be present in amounts that don't quite match your horse's requirements.

That's why we look at mineral balancing alongside good forage, rather than assuming one automatically takes care of the other.

Where EquiVita comes in

EquiVita provides a consistent daily supply of the key deficient nutrients - minerals, amino acids and vitamin E to complement a predominantly grazing-based diet.

These nutrients contribute to normal hoof growth, muscle and tissue maintenance, enzyme activity and everyday metabolic function.

It's not designed to treat a particular problem or push the body in any one direction.

It's simply about making sure the nutritional building blocks are there.

And when the grass changes?

That's when it's worth reviewing the feeding plan.

If fresh grazing becomes limited and hay takes over, your horse's wider nutritional needs change too.

  • EquiVita remains our mineral-focused option for horses enjoying meaningful fresh grazing.
  • VitaComplete brings together minerals, amino acids, linseed, salt and vitamin E for horses relying more heavily on conserved forage.

Same principle, different forage, and a feeding plan that follows the horse rather than the calendar.

How EquiVita fits into your horse's support plan

EquiVita is a good fit when fresh grazing forms the main part of your horse's diet, and you want a straightforward way to support their daily mineral nutrition.

You might recognise your feeding routine here:

✔ Your horse enjoys regular access to fresh grass.

✔ Forage provides most of their daily nutrition.

✔ You're not already feeding a full-dose mineral balancer.

✔ You want to support healthy hooves, coat and general condition through consistent nutrition.

✔ You'd rather get the everyday basics right than keep adding individual supplements.

In summary

The deciding factor isn't about the time of year - it's how much fresh grass your horse is actually eating.

Mostly fresh grass? Think EquiVita.

Mostly hay? It's VitaComplete .

And if your horse's diet sits somewhere in between, look at the overall forage intake rather than automatically changing products with the seasons.

EquiVita takes care of the daily foundations in one simple step – so everything else you do has a stronger foundation to work from.

Composition & feed guide

How much should I feed?

  • 13g/100kg bodyweight daily - 65g daily for a 500kg horse.
  • A 5kg pouch lasts a 500kg horse apx. 76-days.

Fussy eater?

Horses sometimes have their own opinions (and strong tastebuds!), so introduce gradually, building up over several days. See our Fussy Eaters guide for helpful tips if needed.

The science behind EquiVita - everyday minerals for the everyday jobs

When it comes to nutritional formulas, the architecture is simply about which nutrients are included, why they're there, and how they work together.

Unlike our herbal blends, EquiVita isn't designed to support one particular body system. Its job is to provide essential nutrients that a grazing-based diet may not always supply in the right amounts.

How the formula works

EquiVita brings together four complementary areas of nutritional support.

  1. Essential minerals – Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Selenium & Phosphorus - These contribute to normal enzyme activity, muscle function, metabolism and tissue maintenance.

Zinc and copper are particularly important for healthy hoof and skin development, while the overall mineral balance matters just as much as the individual amounts.
  2. Essential amino acids – Lysine & Methionine - These are building blocks of protein, supporting normal muscle maintenance, tissue renewal and hoof growth. They're included because good nutrition isn't simply a matter of supplying minerals.
  3. Antioxidant support – Vitamin E & Selenium - Both contribute to the body's normal antioxidant defences, helping protect cells during everyday metabolic activity. They have different roles, which is why the overall nutritional balance matters.
  4. Consistent daily intake - Forage mineral content can vary considerably, even between fields on the same yard.

EquiVita provides a measured daily contribution of key nutrients, helping make the nutritional side of your horse's routine more consistent.

The big picture

EquiVita is about providing the missing essential minerals, amino acids and vitamin E in one straightforward daily blend, designed to complement a grazing-based diet.

In simple terms - when the basics are properly covered, everything else tends to work better.

Clinical considerations

Advisories

  • Introduce gradually, especially with sensitive horses.
  • Always provide fresh water and access to plain salt; additional salt may be needed during work or hot weather.
  • Check total nutrient intake if feeding fortified feeds or other supplements.

Contraindications

  • Avoid combining with another full-dose mineral balancer unless professionally advised.

EquiVita FAQs

Why does my horse need a mineral balancer if they're living on good grass

Lovely green grass doesn't necessarily tell us what minerals are actually present.

Mineral levels vary with soil, pasture management and growing conditions, so even good grazing may not supply every nutrient in the amounts your horse needs.

EquiVita helps provide a consistent daily mineral foundation alongside the forage.

What's the difference between EquiVita and VitaComplete?

It comes down to what your horse is eating.

EquiVita is our mineral-focused balancer for horses enjoying plenty of fresh grazing.

VitaComplete is designed for horses relying mainly on hay or conserved forage, adding micronised linseed and salt alongside the minerals, amino acids and vitamin E.

Mostly grass? Think EquiVita. Mostly hay? Think VitaComplete.

Can I feed EquiVita all year round?

Absolutely. If fresh grazing remains the main part of your horse's forage intake, EquiVita is the right balancer.

If hay becomes the main menu, we'd consider VitaComplete instead.

Do I still need to feed salt?

Yes. EquiVita isn't designed to provide your horse's daily salt requirement.

Grass and hay are generally low in sodium, so plain salt remains an important part of the feeding plan.

Can I feed EquiVita alongside other supplements?

Yes. EquiVita provides the everyday nutritional support alongside targeted herbal products.

Just check for overlapping nutrients if you're also feeding fortified feeds, vitamin supplements or other mineral products.

Is EquiVita suitable for barefoot horses?

Very much so – in fact, barefoot hoof care was part of the reason we originally developed EquiVita for our own horses back in 2008.

EquiVita provides key minerals and amino acids involved in normal hoof development.
