Overview

Lyme disease in horses is one of those frustrating, murky conditions — the “great imitator.” Caused by the tick-borne bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi , it rarely shows up with obvious signs and can simmer for weeks – if not months – before symptoms appear. Some horses may show joint stiffness, muscle pain, lethargy, or odd behaviour changes; others might just seem “off” – tired but restless, sore but not obviously lame.

The challenge? Borrelia hides deep in connective tissues – joints, tendons, even the nervous system – making it hard to detect and notoriously resistant to antibiotics. Blood tests are unreliable: negatives don’t rule it out, and positives may simply show past exposure.

When the immune system gets stuck battling this stealth invader, the body tips into chronic immune dysfunction – a tired-and-wired state that leaves the horse sore, stressed, and struggling to heal.

LymeCARE was created for these complex cases. Its layered herbal approach supports the gut, liver, and lymphatics - the body’s natural detox pathways - while helping the immune system regain balance and strength. The aim isn’t just to “chase Lyme,” but to reset cellular health, support resilience, and give your horse a clearer path back to wellbeing.

  • The Herxheimer Reaction- You may see a rare, but short-term (as in a few days) re -toxification reaction occur in the body, aka "feeling worse before feeling better." As the body cleanses, it is not uncommon to experience ill-at-ease symptoms, anything from joint/ muscle pain, itching/scratching, sweating and gut imbalances. This is all perfectly normal, and even healthy, but if you're concerned, see our Detoxification page (scroll to the bottom) for more info.
