Important Note
If your horse's symptoms escalate and they need stronger support, consider our comprehensive PollenCOMBO , a comprehensive 3-in-1 nutritional support for spring pollen reactions. Combining the powerful benefits of EquiNatural's PollenTonic, KoffTonic, and Spirulina, into one comprehensive blend.
Overview
Allergic reactions in horses are now so common throughout the year, with spring (tree) pollens often causing significant histamine intolerance. Then along come our hot and humid summers, presenting a deeper respiratory congestion for some horses from the grass pollens.
PollenTonic addresses the spring tree-pollen symptoms by calming the immune system's over-reaction to allergens.
The root cause? An over-reaction by the body's immune system, with recent science now identifying this syndrome as a much bigger picture - KPU
- a multi-metabolic detoxification/immune dysregulation disorder which presents as a respiratory issue.
Is PollenTonic Right for Your Horse?
PollenTonic is a good fit when your horse shows early-season, upper-airway pollen sensitivity — the itchy, reactive spring stage before symptoms deepen into the chest.
Choose PollenTonic if your horse:
- has itchy, watery, or irritated eyes as tree pollens rise
- rubs their nose or face on legs, buckets, or fence posts
- headshakes lightly or intermittently on windy/high-pollen days
- seems unsettled, or mildly reactive in early spring
- shows histamine-style seasonal patterns rather than deeper airway effort
PollenTonic supports the stage where spring irritation is still upper-airway and immune-reactive, helping the body stay steadier and more comfortable through tree-pollen season.
Which blend – PollenTonic, PollenCOMBO, or BreathePlus?
→ PollenTonic
Spring comfort | Upper-airway ease | Early-stage support
For itchy eyes, nose rubbing, light headshaking, and histamine-driven reactivity.
→ PollenCOMBO
When spring reactions begin to escalate
For horses whose early-stage irritation starts tipping toward coughing or throat sensitivity.
→ BreathePlus
Deep respiratory resilience
For horses needing support that goes beyond pollen irritation and involves the lungs, breathing effort, or recurring airway challenges.
In short?
- If symptoms are itchy, reactive, upper-airway , choose PollenTonic.
- If pollen reactions start affecting breathing, step up to PollenCOMBO.
- If the chest becomes involved or patterns are recurring, choose BreathePlus.

Energetic Architecture - the synergy behind the blend
Energetic architecture describes how a blend is formulated to support systems working together, rather than suppressing symptoms or forcing a response.
PollenTonic is designed around the early-stage pollen reaction pathway- where immune over-reactivity, histamine release, and upper-airway irritation begin before deeper respiratory involvement develops.
Its role is not to shut the immune system down, but to steady it, helping the body respond more proportionately to spring tree pollens.
Functional categories – early pollen support in action
- Immune modulation & histamine steadiness -
Urtica, Withania, Achillea
Helps calm excessive immune signalling and histamine-style reactions, supporting a more measured response to pollen exposure rather than escalation. - Upper-airway & ocular comfort -
Euphrasia, Inula, Mentha
Supports comfort in the eyes, sinuses, and upper respiratory tract — the first tissues affected by spring tree pollens. - Mucosal soothing & tissue protection -
Glycyrrhiza, Matricaria
Helps soothe irritated mucous membranes and reduce the “itch–rub–react” cycle that drives ongoing sensitivity. - Circulatory & microvascular support -
Ginkgo, Achillea
Supports healthy blood flow and oxygen delivery to fine capillary networks in the eyes and upper airways, helping tissues recover more calmly during exposure. - Fluid balance & gentle clearance -
Taraxacum folia
Supports healthy fluid dynamics during seasonal immune activity, helping prevent congestion without forcing detoxification.
Functional intent – what PollenTonic is designed to do
PollenTonic is formulated to support the early, histamine-driven stage of spring pollen sensitivity, when symptoms are still centred in the eyes, nose, and upper airways.
By calming immune over-reaction, soothing mucosal tissues, and supporting circulation, it helps prevent mild spring irritation from tipping into deeper airway involvement.
It is a seasonal steadiness blend, not a deep respiratory or lung formula - designed to keep reactions lighter, calmer, and more manageable as pollen counts rise.
The synergy
Spring pollen reactions aren’t caused by pollen alone - they’re driven by how reactively the immune system responds.
PollenTonic works because it:
- calms immune signalling rather than blocking it
- supports tissues most exposed to pollen first
- reduces histamine-style reactivity without sedation
- avoids pushing detox or drying the system
- creates conditions for stability before symptoms escalate
That’s why it’s most effective early, and why horses who start here often avoid needing heavier respiratory support later in the season.
Clinical Considerations / Veterinary Reference
PollenTonic is a gentle, supportive blend designed to help maintain seasonal spring-pollen comfort, balanced immune responses, and clearer breathing.
Advisories
- For best results, begin feeding 4–6 weeks before the spring-pollen season, so the immune system can strengthen before allergens peak.
- Contains botanicals that naturally influence fluid balance, histamine responses, and respiratory comfort - ensure constant access to water and forage.
- Horses with deeper spring-pollen airway congestion and recurring cough, may require PollenCOMBO or BreathePlus instead. Please check with us for advice.
- May be used long-term through spring as part of a broad seasonal support routine.
Cautions
- Glycyrrhiza (Liquorice) may prolong corticosteroid action; veterinary oversight recommended for horses on steroid therapy.
- Herbs influencing circulation (e.g. Ginkgo , Achillea ) should be used with care alongside anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications.
- No clinically significant interactions are reported at nutritional levels, but always space herbal and medicated feeds by a few hours where possible.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for pregnant or nursing mares due to aromatic and immune-modulating botanicals.
- Avoid use in horses on steroid medications(dexamethasone, prednisolone, inhalers) unless under veterinary guidance - Glycyrrhiza (Liquorice) may prolong steroid activity.
- Use caution in horses with kidney disease or fluid retention, as Glycyrrhiza (Liquorice) may influence electrolyte balance and water regulation.
- Not advised for severe or atypical headshaking cases where symptoms occur outside pollen-related triggers (possible trigeminal involvement).
