Spring pollen reactions may look mild from the outside...

...but when you’ve lived through it with your horse, you know it’s anything but.

The itchy eyes, the frantic nose rubbing, the sudden headshaking, that rising reactivity. And the worry behind it all – “Is this going to become a bigger breathing issue?”

PollenTonic is designed for the early spring stage – when tree pollens first start to affect the eyes, nose and upper airways.

Made with traditionally used herbs, this blend is structured to help maintain calmer seasonal comfort, support normal respiratory function, and encourage a steadier response to environmental challenges as pollen levels rise.

Important Note

If your horse’s spring sensitivity begins to escalate beyond the eyes and upper airways, you may prefer PollenCOMBO – our more comprehensive 3-in-1 seasonal support, combining PollenTonic, KoffTonic and Spirulina, into one comprehensive blend.

Overview

Seasonal reactions are now increasingly common in horses – and spring tree pollens can be one of the most challenging triggers.

Then along come our hot and humid summers, presenting a deeper respiratory congestion for some horses from the grass pollens.

Formulated for the upper-airway spring stage, PollenTonic addresses the pollen symptoms by supporting the immune system's over-reaction to the allergens, i.e.:

  • watery or irritated eyes
  • nose rubbing
  • intermittent headshaking
  • unsettled behaviour on windy or high-pollen days

This is a blend for seasonal steadiness, not deep respiratory support – and it’s best used early, as part of a broader spring routine.

NB. You may find our KPU page helpful. It often explains the deeper “ why ” behind these cycles which often appear in horses who fit the KPU spectrum.

Is PollenTonic Right for Your Horse?

PollenTonic is a good fit when your horse shows early-season, upper-airway seasonal sensitivity – the itchy, reactive spring stage before signs move deeper.

Choose PollenTonic if your horse:

  • has watery, itchy or irritated eyes as tree pollens rise
  • rubs their nose or face on legs, buckets or fence posts
  • headshakes lightly or intermittently on windy/high-pollen days
  • seems unsettled or on edge in early spring
  • shows seasonal patterns that feel upper-airway focused rather than chest-based

It may not be the right fit if:

  • coughing becomes persistent
  • breathing effort is affected
  • the chest feels involved
  • symptoms are severe, atypical, or occur outside seasonal triggers

Which Blend – PollenTonic, PollenCOMBO, or BreathePlus?

→ PollenTonic

Spring comfort | Upper-airway focus | Early-stage support
For itchy eyes, nose rubbing, light headshaking and seasonal sensitivity.

→ PollenCOMBO

When spring patterns begin to feel stronger
For horses whose seasonal sensitivity is becoming harder to manage, or starts to affect the throat.

→ BreathePlus

Deep respiratory resilience
For horses needing longer-term respiratory support beyond seasonal irritation.

In short?

  • If signs are itchy, reactive, upper-airway, choose PollenTonic.
  • If spring sensitivity starts to affect breathing, step up to PollenCOMBO .
  • If the chest becomes involved or patterns are recurring, choose BreathePlus

Energetic Architecture - the synergy behind the blend

Energetic architecture describes how a blend is formulated to support systems working together, rather than suppressing symptoms or forcing a response.

PollenTonic is designed around the early-stage pollen reaction pathway- where immune over-reactivity, histamine release, and upper-airway irritation begin before deeper respiratory involvement develops.

Its role is not to shut the immune system down, but to steady it, helping the body respond more proportionately to spring tree pollens.

Functional categories – early pollen support in action

  1. Immune modulation - Urtica, Withania, Achillea
Supporting a calmer, more measured seasonal pattern.
  2. Upper-airway & ocular comfort - Euphrasia, Inula, Mentha
Nourishing the tissues most exposed to pollen first.
  3. Mucosal soothing & tissue protection - Glycyrrhiza, Matricaria
Supporting comfort where irritation can trigger rubbing and sensitivity.
  4. Circulatory & microvascular support - Ginkgo, Achillea
Supporting normal circulation to delicate upper-airway and ocular tissues.
  5. Fluid balance & gentle clearance - Taraxacum folia
Supporting normal fluid dynamics during seasonal change.

Functional intent – what PollenTonic is designed to support

PollenTonic is formulated for the early spring stage, when signs are still centred in the eyes, nose and upper airways.

It is a seasonal steadiness blend, designed to help maintain:

  • calm comfort
  • normal respiratory function
  • upper-airway clarity
  • a more settled response to spring environmental triggers

Clinical Considerations / Veterinary Reference

PollenTonic is a gentle, supportive blend designed to help maintain seasonal spring comfort and normal respiratory function.

Advisories

  • For best results, begin feeding 4–6 weeks before spring, where possible.
  • Ensure constant access to forage and water.
  • Horses with deeper seasonal congestion, persistent cough, or recurring respiratory patterns may be better suited to PollenCOMBO or BreathePlus – please contact us for guidance.
  • May be fed throughout spring as part of a broader seasonal routine.

Contraindications

  • Not suitable for pregnant or nursing mares due to aromatic and traditionally active botanicals.
  • Liquorice Root (Glycyrrhiza) may prolong corticosteroid activity – avoid use alongside steroid medications unless under veterinary guidance.
  • Use caution in horses with impaired liver function, kidney disease, fluid retention, or electrolyte imbalance, as Liquorice may influence water regulation.
  • Herbs supporting circulation (e.g. Ginkgo, Achillea) should be used with care alongside anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications.
  • Not advised for severe or atypical headshaking patterns occurring outside seasonal triggers.
