SARCOSHIELD for Horses | Organic Herbal Support for Sarcoid-Prone Horses
Your horse has a sarcoid. So what can you support beyond the bit you can see?
If your horse has existing or recurring sarcoids, the sarcoid itself should always be assessed and managed with your vet.
But there's another question we can ask alongside that: How well are we supporting the horse underneath it?
That's where we'd look at SarcoShield, our long-term organic herbal blend for sarcoid-prone horses, designed to support normal immune function, healthy skin and connective tissue, and wider nutritional resilience while you and your vet manage the sarcoid itself.
This isn't a quick-fix blend, and it isn't designed to remove or treat a sarcoid - t hink months rather than weeks - b ecause sometimes the most useful thing we can do beyond watching the lump is support the horse carrying it.

Why sarcoids require a different approach
Sarcoids are frustrating partly because they refuse to behave like a simple skin problem.
A horse may have one lesion or several, and what happens next isn't always easy to predict. One might sit quietly for years. Another may change.
We explore the BPV connection, fly transmission, different sarcoid types and current thinking around recurrence in much more depth on our Sarcoids Info page, but here, the important question is simpler:
Where does SarcoShield fit?
Not as a treatment for the sarcoid itself. That distinction is important.
If a sarcoid needs diagnosing, monitoring or treating, that's the veterinary part of the picture. SarcoShield sits alongside it as long-term nutritional and herbal support for the sarcoid-prone horse.
That's why the formula is deliberately simple.
- Pau D'Arco provides traditional botanical support around normal immune function and microbial balance.
- Rosehips bring naturally occurring polyphenols and plant nutrients associated with antioxidant and connective-tissue support.
- Barleygrass adds a broad spectrum of powerful plant nutrients for everyday nutritional resilience.
Three ingredients only - but with one very clear job. Support the wider horse rather than pretending we can solve a sarcoid from the feed bowl.
And this really is the long game
SarcoShield isn't the product we'd choose because we expect something dramatic to happen next Tuesday.
We're thinking in months rather than weeks, supporting normal immune function, skin and nutritional resilience consistently while watching what the sarcoids themselves do over time.
Sometimes that will be alongside veterinary treatment, or your vet might simply recommend monitoring a lesion. Either way, SarcoShield's role remains the same - support the horse while the sarcoid is managed appropriately in its own right.
How SarcoShield fits into your horse's support plan
SarcoShield is a good fit when your horse has a history of sarcoids and you're looking beyond the visible lump towards long-term support for the horse underneath it.
Choose SarcoShield if:
✔ Your horse currently has one or more sarcoids that you're monitoring or managing
✔ Sarcoids have appeared before, or seem prone to returning or changing
✔ You've already dealt with the visible sarcoid, but want to support healthy skin and immune resilience afterwards
✔ You're looking for steady, long-term support rather than something designed to produce a dramatic short-term reaction
✔ You're comfortable thinking in months, not weeks
In short: if sarcoids are part of your horse's history, SarcoShield is designed for the long game.
Supporting the wider picture
Not every horse with a sarcoid needs a cupboard full of supplements. For many, SarcoShield - alongside good forage and balanced nutrition - may be all the additional support we'd choose.
But if sarcoids are appearing alongside other recurring problems, that's when we'd look at the wider horse.
- OptimaCARE – where you'd like to begin with a structured 30-day Gut → Filtration → Flow reset before settling into longer-term support.
- BioCARE – where skin or tissue challenges are part of the picture and broader antimicrobial and immune support makes sense.
- KPUCOMBO/ KPU Reset Programme – worth considering when sarcoids sit among a much bigger collection of recurring patterns – perhaps skin problems, allergies, digestive instability, poor hoof quality or repeated infections. At that point, we'd stop treating each problem as a separate event and look at what may be connecting them.
Foundation support
Skin and immune function need the basics underneath them too – good forage, adequate quality protein, balanced minerals and healthy digestion all matter.
Supporting your horse's baseline nutrition with a forage-based mineral blend such as EquiVita or VitaComplete helps provide the nutritional foundations that healthy skin, connective tissue and immune function rely upon every day.
In summary
Use SarcoShield when you're taking the long view with a sarcoid-prone horse.
Support the horse consistently, keep the nutritional foundations strong, and only add another layer when the wider horse gives you a genuine reason to.
And when it comes to the sarcoid itself, keep your vet involved – particularly if it changes in size, shape, appearance or behaviour.

"Energetics" - how SarcoShield works
When it comes to herbs and herbal formulations, you may have heard herbalists talk about energetics . It's simply the way we describe how a formula has been designed to support the body in a balanced and purposeful way. The science helps us understand why that structure works.
SarcoShield is deliberately simple. Rather than throwing a long list of herbs at the visible sarcoid, the formula works underneath it - supporting the immune environment, skin and tissue resilience, and everyday cellular health of the horse living with it.
How the formula works
- Supporting a balanced immune environment - Pau D'Arco provides the formula's main botanical support for normal immune function and microbial balance — important because healthy immune surveillance depends on the wider internal environment, not simply what is happening at one patch of skin.
- Supporting skin and tissue resilience - Rosehips provide naturally occurring polyphenols, bioflavonoids and vitamin C, supporting normal collagen formation and the everyday maintenance of healthy skin and connective tissue.
- Supporting the horse underneath - Barleygrass brings broad whole-plant nutrition, including naturally occurring phytonutrients and antioxidants, providing nutritional support for normal cellular function and resilience.
Big picture
A sarcoid may be what we can see, but SarcoShield is designed around the horse underneath it — supporting the immune, skin and cellular environment over the long term, while the visible sarcoid is monitored and managed appropriately.
Three ingredients, with one long-term approach.

SarcoShield FAQs
Will SarcoShield get rid of my horse's sarcoids?
This is probably the first question everyone wants to ask – and we'd rather give you a realistic answer than promise something no supplement can guarantee.
SarcoShield isn't designed to attack or remove a sarcoid. Instead, we look at the horse underneath it: supporting healthy immune function, skin and connective tissue, and the wider internal environment over time.
With sarcoids, we've learned not to judge success only by whether something dramatic happens to the lump we can see.
Sometimes quiet and stable is a better place to be.
My horse only has one small sarcoid. Is SarcoShield still worth considering?
It can be - but remember - one of the interesting things about sarcoids is that what we can see on the skin isn't necessarily the whole story.
So rather than waiting until a horse has multiple sarcoids before thinking about wider support, some owners choose to support skin and immune resilience while things are still relatively quiet.
It doesn't mean we're expecting trouble - quite the opposite. We quite like boring where sarcoids are concerned. 😉
Why do you focus on the immune system when sarcoids are on the skin?
Because the skin is where we see the problem.
Sarcoids are associated with bovine papillomavirus (BPV), but simply encountering a virus doesn't explain why one horse develops persistent sarcoids while another doesn't.
That's where the horse's own immune response and the health of the surrounding tissues become interesting, and why SarcoShield doesn't simply ask, “What can we put ON the sarcoid?” but “ What's happening in the horse underneath it ?”
How quickly should I expect to see something happening?
This is definitely not one of our “feed it for a fortnight and cross everything” products. 😉
Sarcoids themselves can be a long-game issue, with BPV involvement and immune response forming part of a much more complicated picture than the visible lump alone suggests.
So we're supporting immune resilience, skin integrity and the horse's wider internal terrain. Think in months rather than weeks, feed consistently, and remember that with sarcoids the absence of dramatic change can itself be meaningful.
Slow and boring can be surprisingly welcome words when it comes to sarcoids.
Can I use SarcoShield alongside veterinary treatment for a sarcoid?
Yes – nutritional support and veterinary treatment don't have to be an either/or decision.
Your vet may recommend monitoring, removal, or another treatment depending on the type, position and behaviour of the sarcoid.
SarcoShield has a different job: supporting the wider horse, particularly normal immune function, skin health and tissue resilience.
Just be sure to check with your vet if your horse is receiving immune-suppressive medication.
My horse has sarcoids plus itchy skin, digestive problems and poor hooves. Is SarcoShield enough?
That's when we'd start looking beyond the sarcoids.
If they're one isolated issue in an otherwise thriving horse, SarcoShield may be all the additional support you want.
But if sarcoids sit alongside recurring skin problems, digestive sensitivity, allergies, poor hoof quality, repeated infections or several seemingly unrelated chronic issues, we'd be asking whether we're seeing a wider whole-horse pattern.
Sometimes the sarcoid is the problem, or sometimes it's one clue amongst several. Contact us and we'll look deeper at what's going on.
Should I stop SarcoShield if my horse's sarcoids become quiet or stable?
Not necessarily. SarcoShield isn't intended simply as something to feed until a visible sarcoid changes and then immediately stop.
For horses with a history of sarcoids, many owners choose to continue it as longer-term maintenance support for skin and immune resilience.
And this is one occasion where we're perfectly happy for you to tell us six months later, “Nothing's happened.”
We'll take that conversation quite happily!
