When people search for a mineral balancer for horses, they're usually looking for one thing: a simple way to make sure their horse is getting the nutrients modern grazing no longer reliably provides.

" Recommended by my equine podiatrist, with one horse transitioning to barefoot and one recovering from laminitis, it’s transformed their hooves.” KG

Designed specifically for horses living primarily on spring and summer grass, EquiVita provides a carefully balanced daily supply of essential minerals, trace elements and amino acids to help support healthy hooves, coat quality, metabolism, and long-term wellbeing.

It’s easy to assume that good grass and quality forage should provide everything a horse needs - but unfortunately, modern grazing rarely contains the same mineral profile horses evolved to thrive on, and over time those small nutritional gaps can quietly begin to show.

That's where EquiVita comes in.

Unlike our herbal formulations, which are designed to support specific biological systems, EquiVita focuses on the foundations. It simply replaces the essential nutrients modern grazing often no longer provides, ensuring the body gets the building blocks it needs for normal cellular function, healthy metabolism, and everyday maintenance.

If you're feeding a forage-based diet and simply want to know the basics are properly covered, EquiVita is the place to start.

No synthetic fillers or unnecessary additives - just the core nutrients your horse actually needs, produced to trusted quality standards.

Overview - why horses need a mineral balancer

Just like any building needs a solid foundation, your horse's health depends on one too.

That foundation? The right balance of key trace elements found in nature – in forms the equine body recognises, and knows how to utilise.

If there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that many horse owners are trying incredibly hard to do the right thing - yet they're still left wondering why hooves aren't as strong as they'd like, coats lack bloom, or their horse never seems to thrive quite as well as they should.

Often, the answer isn't another supplement - it's the foundations.

Modern grazing simply doesn't provide the mineral profile horses evolved to rely on. Even good grass, good hay, and excellent management can still leave nutritional gaps that gradually add up over time.

That's where EquiVita comes in.

It's not designed to push any particular system. Instead, it provides the core minerals, trace elements, and amino acids that underpin normal cellular function throughout the body.

In simple terms? Before we start directing systems, we make sure the foundations are properly covered.

How EquiVita fits into your feeding plan

EquiVita is a good fit when your horse is relying on forage for most of their nutrition – and you want to know the basics are properly covered.

✔ You’re relying on grass and forage to do the heavy lifting nutritionally
✔ You’re not feeding a full-spectrum mineral balancer already
✔ Hooves, coat, or condition seem not quite where they should be
✔ Energy or weight feels a little inconsistent or hard to maintain
✔ You want to cover the basics properly, not guess
✔ You’re building a feeding plan and want to get the foundation right first

In short? EquiVita is the daily foundation that helps close the nutrient gaps that modern life has squeezed out.

How EquiVita fits into your horse’s support plan

EquiVita isn't a "next step" product - it's the nutritional foundation everything else builds on. Before adding targeted support, it's worth making sure your horse's baseline nutrition is properly covered.

EquiVita is designed to fill the gaps left by modern grazing, providing a consistent, forage-aligned mineral foundation that supports the body’s natural ability to respond, adapt, and maintain balance.

Once that foundation is in place, any additional support – whether for gut health, hormones, skin, or joints – tends to work more effectively and hold more consistently.

If your horse is already on a structured support plan, EquiVita sits underneath it, supporting everything else you’re doing.

Which foundation?

  • EquiVita – Mineral-focused foundation for horses primarily on grazing.
  • VitaComplete – Our 3-in-1 foundation combining minerals, sodium, and essential fatty acids for forage and hay-based diets.

In summary

EquiVita isn’t something you add on top – it’s what everything else relies on.

Composition & feed guide

EquiVita is a nutritional food supplement and not veterinary medicine. For more on this, see Dr Kellon's article - Nutrition is not 'Alternative' Therapy

Fussy eater?

Horses sometimes have their own opinions (and strong tastebuds!), so introduce gradually, building up over several days. See our Fussy Eaters guide for helpful tips if needed.

Energetic architecture - the foundation behind the formula

EquiVita is structured differently to our herbal blends:

→ herbal therapy = guiding systems

→ balanced mineral nutrients = enabling systems

Rather than directing specific systems, it provides the foundational nutrients that allow those systems to function properly in the first place. Without that foundation, even the most targeted support can only go so far.

Modern grazing, even when well managed, falls short of the mineral profile horses evolved to rely on. Over time, imbalances in key trace elements can affect everything from hoof quality and coat condition to metabolic stability and energy regulation.

EquiVita is designed to close those gaps - not by pushing the body in any one direction, but by supplying the core building blocks needed for cellular function.

Think of it as the nutritional groundwork: when the foundations are in place, everything else becomes easier for the body to manage and maintain.

How the formula is built

Unlike our herbal blends, EquiVita isn't trying to steer the body in a particular direction - its job is much simpler.

It makes sure the essential nutritional building blocks are available before asking the body to do everything else.

From there the ingredients naturally fall into five jobs:

  1. Replacing key minerals
  2. Supporting enzyme activity
  3. Providing essential amino acids
  4. Nourishing structural tissues
  5. Protecting cells from everyday oxidative stress

In other words... it's not directing biology - it's making biology easier.

Big picture

EquiVita is the foundation that supports everything else.

By ensuring that key nutritional requirements are consistently met, it helps create the conditions for the body to regulate, adapt, and maintain balance more effectively.

In simple terms - when the basics are properly covered, everything else tends to work better.

Recommended

EquiVita provides the mineral foundation - but minerals aren't the whole story.

Horses also need adequate salt, essential fatty acids, quality forage, and natural movement to truly thrive.

During the grazing season, fresh grass contributes valuable omega-3 fatty acids. During winter, however, those levels drop significantly in both grazing and hay.

For horses relying heavily on hay, consider adding micronised linseed(EFAs) , or explore VitaComplete , which combines minerals, salt, and essential fatty acids in one convenient daily foundation.

And don't forget salt - it's one of the most overlooked nutrients in the equine diet, yet one of the most important. Even horses doing little work still have a daily sodium requirement that grass and hay alone rarely meet consistently.

Clinical considerations

Advisories

Suitable for long-term daily use as part of a forage-based feeding plan.

Introduce gradually over several days and ensure access to fresh water and plain salt.

Contraindications

Not suitable alongside other full-dose mineral balancers due to the risk of unnecessary duplication.

EquiVita FAQs

Why does my horse need a mineral balancer if they're living on good grass?

It's one of the questions we're asked most often.

Whilst good grazing provides valuable fibre and energy, modern pasture rarely contains the same mineral profile horses evolved to rely on.

Even well-managed grazing can leave small nutritional gaps that gradually affect hoof quality, coat condition, metabolism, and overall wellbeing.

EquiVita was designed to help close those gaps by providing the minerals, trace elements, and amino acids that modern grazing often lacks.

Why do you call EquiVita the foundation?

Because almost every biological system depends on adequate mineral nutrition.

Healthy hooves, skin, muscles, metabolism, immunity, digestion, hormones, and tissue repair all rely on minerals and trace elements to function normally.

Rather than trying to push one system in a particular direction, EquiVita provides the nutritional groundwork that allows the whole body to do what it was designed to do.

When the foundations are properly covered, everything else tends to work more effectively.

How is EquiVita different from other mineral balancers?

EquiVita was developed around one simple principle - cover the foundations correctly.

Rather than including unnecessary fillers or trying to perform lots of different jobs, it focuses on supplying the key nutrients horses commonly miss when living primarily on grass and forage.

It's the nutritional foundation that everything else builds upon.

What's the difference between EquiVita and VitaComplete?

Both provide the mineral foundation your horse needs, but they're designed for different feeding situations.

  • EquiVita is intended for horses living mainly on spring and summer grazing.
  • VitaComplete is designed for horses relying primarily on hay or forage during the winter months, combining minerals with salt and essential fatty acids to reflect the changing nutritional profile of the diet.

Think of EquiVita as your grazing-season foundation, and VitaComplete as your forage-season foundation.

Can I feed EquiVita alongside your herbal supplements?

Absolutely - in fact, that's exactly how the EquiNatural range has been designed.

EquiVita provides the nutritional foundation, while herbal blends are used to support specific biological systems when extra help is needed.

We often say, "Before looking at systems, make sure the foundations are covered."

My horse looks healthy. Do they still need a mineral balancer?

Mineral deficiencies often develop gradually and can be difficult to recognise until they've been present for some time.

Many owners choose EquiVita not because something is obviously wrong, but because they want the confidence of knowing the nutritional basics are consistently covered every day.

Can I feed EquiVita all year round?

You can. However, many owners choose to move onto VitaComplete during the winter months when horses rely more heavily on hay and conserved forage.

The two products were designed to complement the changing nutritional profile of the seasons.

How long will it take to notice a difference?

Every horse is different. Some owners notice improvements in coat quality, hoof growth, or general wellbeing within a short time, whilst for others the changes are more gradual.

Mineral nutrition works by supporting normal cellular function throughout the body, so improvements often build steadily over time rather than appearing overnight.

Can I feed EquiVita alongside another mineral balancer?

We generally wouldn't recommend feeding two full-dose mineral balancers together. Doing so can lead to unnecessary duplication of minerals and trace elements.

Why do you include lysine and methionine?

Minerals don't work in isolation.

Lysine and methionine are essential amino acids involved in tissue maintenance, hoof quality, muscle metabolism, and countless everyday cellular processes.

Including them alongside the mineral profile helps provide a more complete nutritional foundation.

Is EquiVita suitable for barefoot horses?

This is who is was originally formulated for - our own horses back in 2008 when we took them barefoot!

Healthy hoof horn depends upon consistent mineral nutrition, with EquiVita providing the nutritional building blocks needed for healthy hoof growth - an important part of the overall picture.

Do I still need to feed salt?

Yes - salt is one of the most overlooked nutrients in the equine diet.

Even horses in light work have a daily sodium requirement that grass and hay alone rarely meet consistently.

EquiVita provides the mineral foundation, but horses should be fed plain salt as part of a balanced feeding programme.

Is EquiVita just for horses with problems?

Not at all. Most owners feed EquiVita because they want to prevent nutritional gaps developing in the first place.

It's designed for everyday horses eating everyday forage - helping ensure modern grazing provides the nutrients horses need to thrive, not just survive.
