GUTAMINOS *Deep-level nutrition to nourish the gut’s natural barrier
GutAminos is a targeted blend of essential amino acids (proteins) and complementary herbs, designed to support the health of the intestinal membrane, whether addressing gastric ulcers or gut permeability.

Overview
T o support any cellular repair in the body, we need protein, which is broken down into amino acids required for regeneration. And for a healthy gut membrane , two specific amino acids play a pivotal role in supporting the repair of this delicate tissue:
Specifically:- L Glutamine - a key building block for proteins that maintain cellular health and tissue repair. More importantly, it’s the preferred food of the cells lining the gut wall.
- N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC)
: The precursor to glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant, NAC protects cells from damage caused by free radicals and supports cellular repair through enhanced glutathione production.
L-Glutamine and gut health
L-Glutamine plays a vital role in the regeneration of epithelial cells in the GI mucosa lining, particularly during times of critical illness, trauma, intestinal disease, or after excessive loss of lean body mass. L-Glutamine is so important to gut health that low concentrations are linked to gut permeability and inflammation making it a crucial nutrient for resolving leaky gut.
As the preferred fuel for the cells lining the gut wall, L-Glutamine supports their repair and regeneration. This helps restore the intestinal lining’s integrity, maintain the right pH balance, and eliminate the challenges of leaky gut. Research in human health suggests that glutamine supplementation begins showing effects within 30 days, with significant gut lining repair typically achieved in around 12 weeks.
L-Glutamine works synergistically with NAC to enhance glutathione production, further supporting cellular health and protection.
NAC and Glutathione
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine is a vital precursor to glutathione, the body’s most powerful natural antioxidant. By replenishing glutathione levels, NAC helps protect cells from oxidative stress and supports overall cellular repair.
Complementary support from Marshmallow Root
To enhance the benefits of L-Glutamine and NAC, GutAminos also includes Marshmallow Root , used as a remedy for centuries to treat digestive conditions. It actively promotes the growth of intestinal cells with research showing promise in its antioxidant properties and gastroprotective effects, particularly for ulcers. Marshmallow Root actively promotes the growth of intestinal cells, supporting the repair of leaky gut and strengthening the gut lining.

Composition & Feed guide
GutAminos is a nutritional food supplement and not veterinary medicine. For more on this, see Dr Kellon's article - Nutrition is not 'Alternative' Therapy .
Composition
L-Glutamine – The preferred fuel of enterocytes (gut-lining cells), L-Glutamine supports epithelial repair, maintains pH balance, and helps restore the intestinal barrier after stress, illness, or inflammation. Known as the 'glue' for tight junctions, it’s vital for resolving leaky gut and improving nutrient absorption.
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) – A bioavailable precursor to glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant. NAC protects gut and liver cells from oxidative stress, supports detoxification pathways, and works in tandem with L-Glutamine to enhance tissue regeneration.
Althaea officinalis Radix – A mucilaginous herb rich in polysaccharides that coat, soothe, and protect the mucosal lining. Traditionally used for gastric ulcers, it helps calm irritation, supports epithelial growth, and strengthens the gut’s natural barrier function.

Fussy Eater?
Horses sometimes have their own opinions (and strong tastebuds!), so now and then a new blend might need a little extra encouragement. This doesn’t reflect the quality or efficacy of the product, but rather their natural instinct towards new flavours.

Clinical Considerations
Advisories
- Best fed alongside SiboCARE or UlsaTonic for comprehensive intestinal and gastric membrane support.
- Hydration is essential: Ensure horses have constant access to clean water, as amino acids and mucilaginous herbs increase cellular water demand.
- Safe for long-term use as part of ongoing gut health management, especially following antibiotic use, colic recovery, or chronic stress.
Contraindications
- Pregnant or nursing mares: Always seek veterinary guidance before feeding due to limited safety data for NAC and Althaea officinalis in reproductive stages.
