P5P Activated Vit.B6 (Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate) 🍃MAY SALE - 20%-OFF *Nutrient for horses - activated B6 support for the gut–liver axis/KPU

When a horse has ongoing hindgut dysbiosis - often seen alongside leaky gut/faecal water - it means certain vital nutrients are no longer being naturally produced.
One of these is P5P (Pyridoxal-5-phosphate) – the natural, activated (already converted into the usable form the body needs), bioavailable form of vitamin B6 – a key co-factor involved in metabolic and immune function.
P5P plays an essential role in liver metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and energy pathways. When hindgut disruption interferes with its natural production, this leaves a functional gap that the body still depends on.
Here’s why that matters
Think of the liver as a 4x4 vehicle and your horse’s trailer. Without a towbar , your trailer’s going nowhere.
Now picture the liver as the 4x4, and everything your horse consumes – nutrients, by-products, environmental toxins – as the trailer. Before these can be used or safely cleared, they must be processed by the liver.
P5P – this small but vital nutrient – acts as the liver’s ‘towbar’. Without it, the liver cannot efficiently convert substances into usable forms or prepare them for safe elimination.
Under normal circumstances, a healthy hindgut contributes to the natural production of P5P. But when hindgut function is compromised – as in dysbiosis – this process is disrupted, creating a knock-on effect across metabolism.
In short
Without sufficient P5P, the liver cannot fully process what the body needs to clear – which is why deeper metabolic patterns can persist.
✨ “Within days of starting B6, I saw a massive change in him – it was astounding.”
⚠️ P5P is designed to be used as part of a wider protocol. For best outcomes, please see our KPU/Hindgut Reset Programme guides, as r
esults may not be seen if used in isolation.

Overview
A healthy hindgut biome plays a vital role in equine health, producing essential metabolites (postbiotics) that the horse cannot obtain from food. Among these are two crucial B vitamins, required in their activated forms for proper metabolic function:
- B6 as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) – the only form recognised and utilised by the equine liver.
- B12 as Methylcobalamin – to complement your horse's natural B12 balance alongside P5P. (See our organic plant-sourced B12-Balance supplement for a complete solution.)
Unlike synthetic forms (such as Pyridoxine ), activated nutrients are immediately bioavailable and ready for use by the body.
Why P5P matters
Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) is the liver’s preferred, bioavailable form of B6, essential for metabolising toxins and maintaining overall metabolic health.
In horses with hindgut dysbiosis - a condition linked to leaky gut, faecal water syndrome, and chronic inflammation - the natural production of P5P is disrupted, triggering a cascade of metabolic disorders.
By supplementing with P5P, you provide critical support for:
~ Liver detoxification
P5P supports the liver’s ability to process metabolic by-products efficiently.
~ Gut & immune health
Supports a balanced gut microbiome and healthy immune response.
~ Neurotransmitter synthesis
Essential for the production of serotonin, dopamine, and GABA, supporting mental and emotional well-being.
~ Cellular function
P5P is vital for synthesising amino acids, neurotransmitters, sphingolipids, and aminolevulinic acid, all of which are key to cellular health and overall functionality.
The role of the hindgut microbes
Healthy hindgut microbes naturally produce activated nutrients essential for metabolic function – including P5P (activated B6) and methylcobalamin (activated B12).
When hindgut balance is disrupted, this natural production can falter, creating functional gaps that affect metabolism, liver processing, and overall resilience.
For more complete support, P5P is often paired with our B12-Balance supplement.
When P5P may be needed
P5P isn’t usually the first thing you think of – but in horses with hindgut disruption, it can become one of the most important missing pieces.
This is often the case when patterns don’t fully resolve, despite doing “all the right things”.
You may wish to consider P5P when:
✔ Hindgut issues are present – such as leaky gut/ faecal water, or long-standing dysbiosis
✔ Your horse shows multiple, recurring patterns that don’t fully settle
✔ Detoxification support doesn’t seem to hold or give lasting results
✔ You’re already supporting gut and liver function, but something still feels like it's missing
If the system isn’t responding as expected, it may not be about doing more – it may be about restoring a key nutrient that the body can no longer produce effectively.
How P5P fits into your horse’s support plan
P5P is not a standalone solution – it’s a key piece of the puzzle.
When hindgut function is compromised, the natural production of activated vitamin B6 (P5P) is disrupted. This creates a functional gap that affects liver processing, metabolism, and overall system balance.
Supplementing P5P helps fill that gap.
However, it’s important to understand that P5P works best as part of a wider approach.
On its own, it supports a critical pathway – but it doesn’t address the root cause of why that pathway became disrupted in the first place.
From there, support can be stepped into more fully:
Deeper support:
- KPUCOMBO – where multiple interconnected patterns are present, supporting the hindgut, nutrient pathways, and gut–liver axis together
For deeper or long-standing cases:
- KPU Reset Programme – a structured, step-by-step approach to stabilising, resetting, and rebuilding the system over time
In this context, P5P becomes one part of a coordinated strategy, rather than a standalone fix.
Foundation support:
For best results, ensure your horse’s core nutrition is covered with a high-quality, forage-based mineral foundation. A well-supported system responds more consistently to targeted blends.
In short
Use P5P to support a key missing nutrient pathway – but for lasting change, it works best as part of a broader, structured approach.
