Looking for a one-stop deep-reset for your horse’s health?

The OptimaPLUS programme is a straightforward support system, formulated to alleviate discomfort/stress, detox the body, and fortify with essential nutrients - all to restore lasting health and balance.

Previously known as our Alleviate, Detox, Fortify programme- now renamed OptimaPLUS to reflect the complete, integrated wellness support it provides. Same trusted protocol, just with a name that says exactly what it does.

“This programme was a game-changer for my horse, so much healthier and happier than before.” Emma

The Programme - a step-by-step guide

Optima-Plus is a nutritional, functional food programme and not veterinary medicine. For more insights, see Dr Kellon's Horse Sense - Nutrition is not 'Alternative' Therapy .

Step 1: Alleviate

First up, we start alleviating the discomfort and stress. Feed for 3-days in a p.m. feed to start taking the edge off, then start the detox while continuing with the DuoBute & StressTonic until finished.

Step 2: Detox

  • OptimaCARE 3-stage detox programme *Dried ground herb blend

Supports the elimination of toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, toxic moulds etc.

OptimaCARE is a superior 3-stage, synergistic herbal programme of organic functional phytonutrients, known to address gut function and support/tone the body's natural detoxification system.

Fed over 1-month in the a.m. feed, each 'stage' is fed over 10-days, formulated to bring a healthy balance back to the body, specifically addressing gut and immune function, the filtration detoxification organs (lymph nodes, liver and kidneys), and the two circulatory systems (lymph and blood).

Once the course is finished, allow a week for the system to realign, function and strengthen by itself. This will also give you the chance to assess how your horse is, so any symptoms they may then present with can be addressed directly, instead of having to struggle through an overburdened system.

Step 3: Fortify

A balanced diet starts with addressing w hat’s nutritionally missing from the v ery foundation. Horses need their body’s chemistry balanced by the by correct mineral ratios , as UK grass and forage are often deficient in essential nutrients. with the source and nutrient-density of their forage absolutely key to their health.

Fortifying is providing the chemical information from micronutrients in forage that profoundly influences a horse’s genes, hormones, immune system, central nervous system, brain chemistry, and skeletal and soft tissue structure. Every single bite impacts mood, energy, and physical health at the cellular level, connecting the entire body as one thriving system.

Fussy Eater?

Horses can have their own opinions (and strong tastebuds!), so now and then a new blend might need a little extra encouragement. This doesn’t reflect the quality or efficacy of the product, but rather their natural instinct towards new flavours.

Check out our Fussy Eaters page, or send us a message - we've many helpful tips to make introducing new supplements easier.

Proactive Support Thereafter

The focus now is on maintaining your horse's health long-term. By feeding tonifying supplements to support a balanced gut microbiome, alongside a diet rich in healthy, natural nutrition, you'll be giving your horse the best chance to thrive.

Have a look at our suggestions below - we're not saying to feed them all - just go with what feels right for your horse. Metabolic health is a sliding scale, influenced by daily choices that compound over time. Each decision - big or small - helps tip the scales in your horse's favour, ensuring lasting wellness and vitality.

  1. Think fortify - switch processed feeds to a grass forage-fibre feed, i.e a meadow cob/chaff, and getting as much quality hay going through the hindgut, while closing the nutrient gap with forage-balanced minerals.

  2. BiomeTonic , aka the well-known 'oily herbs', stabilise the intestinal environment by protecting the beneficial gut bacteria while creating an unwelcome environment for pathogen microbes and parasites. Some horses seem to need it permanently; others do well when fed every couple of weeks or so. It's very much horses for courses so your horse will no doubt tell you.

  3. WildFed adds valuable prebiotic roughage and nutrient diversity to the diet. Either add to the feedbowl or sprinkle a handful over hay every other day or so - horses love to seek out the herbs for enrichment.

Clinical Considerations

Advisory

  • Introduce gradually and ensure good hydration throughout use.
  • Ensure quality stemmy hay is available 24/7 to provide sufficient cellulose fibre, to help restore the hindgut microbiome.
  • Nutritionally supports natural detoxification, enzyme activity, and systemic balance.
  • Caution with steroid, immune-suppressant, or anticoagulant medications - seek veterinary guidance for compatibility.
  • May have a mild loosening or cleansing effect in sensitive horses.
  • A short-term “Herxheimer Reaction” (temporary re-toxification) may occur as toxins are eliminated - reduce dose or pause briefly if symptoms appear.
  • Best used once acute conditions have stabilised (e.g. laminitis recovery, post-medication, or seasonal transition).

Contraindications

  • Not suitable for pregnant or nursing mares due to strong detoxifying botanicals.
  • Avoid feeding during acute laminitis or febrile illness.
  • Not recommended alongside steroid or anticoagulant medications unless under veterinary guidance.
  • Use caution with horses prone to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance; ensure constant access to water and salt.
