OPTIMAPLUS RESET PROGRAMME for Horses | Structured Whole-Horse Recovery & Nutritional Support 🍂OCTOBER SALE - 20%-OFF - USE CODE RESET20

If your horse has been through the mill - stress, illness, medication, or just a long period of things not quite being right - and they’re not bouncing back as you’d expect, this is usually where we step in with a more complete plan.
Perhaps there's been illness, medication, prolonged stress, box rest, or a difficult period that's taken more out of them than you expected. They're not necessarily showing one obvious problem - but if there's prolonged stress, discomfort, or a difficult recovery, that's where we'd look at the OptimaPLUS Reset Programme.
“T his programme was a game-changer for my horse, so much healthier and happier than before.” Emma
Rather than adding another individual supplement, OptimaPLUS brings together DuoBute, StressTonic, OptimaCARE and the seasonal mineral balancer in one structured programme.
Three clear phases: Settle & Stabilise → Clear & Reset → Rebuild & Fortify.
If your horse simply needs a gut, liver and lymphatic recharge and reset, see our OptimaCARE. But when the wider horse needs supporting too, that's where we'd choose OptimaPLUS. Not just another product but for when you need a proper plan.
*For the latest research and insights, see our main A-Z Horse Library/From Confusion to Clarity page in the Info Centre above.
* OptimaPLUS is a nutritional support programme, not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment.
Overview - when the problem isn't one thing - it's the whole picture
Sometimes there's no single problem you can put your finger on.
Your horse might have come through an illness, a period of chronic stress/trauma, prolonged box rest, or a run of setbacks. The immediate problem may have passed, but they still haven't quite returned to their usual selves.
Their energy is lower. Their coat has lost some of its bloom. Their digestion isn't as settled. Or they simply seem to have lost their former resilience.
And that's when owners often tell us that they need a bit of help getting them back on track.
Why a programme rather than another supplement?
Because sometimes there's more than one area that needs supporting.
OptimaPLUS brings together four existing EquiNatural products in a planned sequence, rather than asking you to work out what to introduce and when.
We begin with DuoBute and StressTonic , providing daily comfort and nervous-system support where prolonged discomfort or stress has been part of the picture.
Then comes OptimaCARE , our three-stage programme supporting digestive function and the body's normal liver, kidney and lymphatic processes.
Finally, our seasonal balancers - EquiVita or VitaComplete - provide a balanced mineral foundation for ongoing nutritional support.
And why not simply use OptimaCARE?
For some horses, that's exactly where we'd start.
If your horse is otherwise comfortable, settled and well nourished, and you're looking for a targeted gut and internal-support programme, OptimaCARE may be all you need.
But if they're also carrying the effects of prolonged stress, discomfort, illness or a difficult recovery, OptimaPLUS gives us a broader starting point.
Not because the horse needs more products for the sake of it, but because we're supporting more of the picture - s ettle first, follow the reset, then keep the nutritional foundations in place.
It's a straightforward sequence, with a clear job for each stage. And sometimes, after months of trying this and that, having a plan can be a relief in itself.
For many owners, this becomes the “starting again properly” programme.
How the OptimaPLUS Reset Programme fits into your horse's support plan
OptimaPLUS is a good fit when your horse has been through a difficult period and needs more than one area of support to get back on track.
You might recognise a few of these:
✔ They've experienced illness, medication, prolonged stress or long-term box rest/restricted movement, and haven't bounced back as you'd hoped.
✔ Their energy, coat, condition or general enthusiasm isn't what it used to be.
✔ Digestive comfort has become less predictable.
✔ They're carrying ongoing stiffness, tension or discomfort alongside other concerns.
✔ You've tried supporting individual areas, but still feel there's a bigger picture to address.
✔ You'd rather follow one structured programme than keep wondering what to add next.
When to choose OptimaPLUS rather than OptimaCARE
- Choose OptimaCARE when the priority is a targeted, three-stage programme supporting the gut, liver, kidneys and lymphatic system.
- Choose OptimaPLUS when that same reset needs to sit within a broader plan, particularly where ongoing stress or discomfort is also part of the picture.
OptimaPLUS adds an initial comfort and nervous-system support phase, followed by the OptimaCARE sequence and a mineral foundation.
Foundation support
Good forage, balanced minerals, appropriate movement, companionship and a consistent routine remain the foundations of recovery.
The programme includes a trial bag of EquiVita or VitaComplete , according to your horse's feeding circumstances and the season.
For longer-term support, we'd recommend continuing with an appropriate forage-based mineral balancer rather than treating nutrition as something to think about only after a reset.
In summary
One clear priority? Stay targeted.
Several areas needing support after a difficult period? OptimaPLUS.
The programme - a step-by-step guide
Optima-Plus is a nutritional, functional food programme and not veterinary medicine. For more insights, see Dr Kellon's Horse Sense - Nutrition is not 'Alternative' Therapy .
Phase 1 – Settle & Stabilise
- DuoBute & StressTonic *Tincture form for swift absorption
We begin by taking the edge off.
- Feed the DuoBute to help settle discomfort and inflammatory pressure, creating a calmer internal environment before deeper support begins.
- The StressTonic can be introduced alongside to support a calmer nervous system.
- Feed for 2–3 days before moving to Phase 2, continuing both until the course is complete.
Phase 2 – Clear & Reset
- OptimaCARE 3-stage detox programme *Dried ground herb blend
Once the system has stabilised, we move into the reset phase.
Feed OptimaCARE for one full month, following its three-stage sequence:
→ Gut stabilisation
→ Filtration organs (liver and kidneys)
→ Circulatory systems (blood and lymph)
This phase supports the body’s natural filtration and clearance pathways, helping normal function begin to re-establish.
Phase 3 – Rebuild & Fortify
- A 1Kg Trial Bag of either EquiVita (summer), or VitaComplete (winter) mineral balancer, depending on the season
Finally, we bring the focus firmly back to nutrition. Mineral support doesn't need to wait until the earlier phases are finished if your horse's diet is currently deficient. This final phase is about making that foundation part of the longer-term plan.
The programme includes a trial bag of one of our forage-based mineral balancers:
- EquiVita – our spring/summer choice where grass forms a meaningful part of the diet.
- VitaComplete – generally our winter or hay-based choice, compensating for the loss in Omega-3 EFAs.
These provide the mineral foundation needed for normal cellular function, tissue maintenance and everyday nutritional resilience.
The big picture
Each stage has its own job.
- DuoBute and StressTonic support comfort and stress resilience.
- OptimaCARE provides the structured gut, filtration and flow programme.
- EquiVita or VitaComplete helps maintain the nutritional foundations afterwards.
It's not about making the horse do more - it's about giving the owner a clear plan, and the horse consistent support.
Fussy eater?
Horses sometimes have their own opinions (and strong tastebuds!), so introduce gradually over several days. See our Fussy Eaters guide as we've many helpful tips.

The programme architecture - how OptimaPlus works
Why start with comfort and stress?
From the get-go, discomfort and prolonged stress can affect appetite, behaviour, movement and general wellbeing.
DuoBute and StressTonic provide targeted nutritional and herbal support for these areas while the wider programme gets underway.
Why follow with OptimaCARE?
The gut, liver, kidneys and lymphatic system all contribute to normal digestive and metabolic function.
OptimaCARE approaches these areas in three stages – Gut, Filtration and Flow – providing a structured way to support their everyday functions.
This isn't about forcing the body to detoxify. Those systems are already working - so we're supporting normal physiology, not replacing it.
Why finish with minerals?
Long-term nutritional resilience depends on meeting the horse's everyday requirements.
EquiVita and VitaComplete provide forage-based mineral support, helping address the nutritional foundations that remain important long after the programme has finished.
Those foundations should be maintained throughout, particularly where the existing diet has gaps.
In summary
Settle what needs settling, support what needs supporting, maintain what needs maintaining - that's OptimaPLUS.
A structured approach for the horse who's been through the mill – without turning the feed room into a chemistry lab.
Ongoing support thereafter
Once the programme is complete, the focus shifts from following a structured sequence to thereafter maintaining good everyday foundations.
For many horses, that means quality forage, balanced minerals, natural movement, companionship, and a consistent routine.
Continue with the appropriate daily mineral balancer, and review any remaining concerns before adding further supplements.
Where extra support is useful:
- BiomeTonic – for ongoing gut microbiome maintenance once digestive function has settled.
- WildFed – to add botanical diversity and natural prebiotic plant material to a restricted forage diet.
- OptimaCARE – if a further targeted programme is appropriate following a review of your horse's needs.
Not every horse needs to repeat a reset programme - and not every horse needs another supplement once things are going well. But sometimes the best maintenance plan is to keep doing the things that are already working.
Clinical considerations
Advisories
Introduce each supplement gradually,
- Introduce gradually in sensitive horses.
- Ensure access to quality forage, hydration, salt, and natural movement throughout the programme.
- Temporary fluctuations in droppings, comfort, or skin patterns may occasionally occur as the system adjusts.
- Best introduced once acute illness or active laminitis episodes have stabilised.
- Spirulina is thought to be an effective gut-mycotoxin binder and deacidifier. Feed a tablespoon/day for 2-weeks to help deacidify the hindgut, especially useful if you've been feeding haylage .
Contraindications & precautions
- Pregnant or nursing mares: Not recommended.
- Active laminitis or acute illness: Do not begin the programme until your vet has assessed the horse and advised that it's appropriate.
- Prescription medication: Seek veterinary guidance before use, particularly if your horse receives anti-inflammatory medication or other long-term treatment.
- DuoBute: Contains Willow Bark and Meadowsweet, which provide naturally occurring salicylates. Do not combine with NSAIDs unless specifically approved by your vet.
- Competition horses: Check the current rules and withdrawal requirements for all herbs in the programme before competing.
OptimaPLUS FAQs
How do I know if my horse needs OptimaPLUS rather than another individual supplement?
Sometimes the biggest clue is that there isn't one obvious problem.
Perhaps your horse has been through illness, prolonged stress, box rest or a difficult few months. The immediate problem may have passed, but they're still not quite themselves.
Their digestion is unpredictable, their coat has lost some of its bloom, they're less enthusiastic about life, or they're carrying tension and discomfort alongside everything else.
That's where we'd consider OptimaPLUS.
Rather than adding one supplement for this and another for that, it brings together comfort support, stress resilience, the OptimaCARE reset and everyday nutritional foundations in one structured plan.
One clear priority? Stay targeted. Several things needing attention? That's where OptimaPLUS earns its place.
What's the difference between OptimaPLUS and OptimaCARE?
Think of OptimaCARE as the internal housekeeping programme.
It follows three stages – Gut → Filtration → Flow – supporting digestion, normal liver and kidney function, circulation and lymphatic processes.
OptimaPLUS takes that same programme and places it within a wider recovery plan.
We begin with DuoBute and StressTonic to support everyday comfort and nervous-system resilience, then follow the OptimaCARE sequence, with EquiVita or VitaComplete providing the longer-term nutritional foundation.
So if your horse is otherwise comfortable and settled, OptimaCARE may be all you need.
But if prolonged stress, stiffness or discomfort are also part of the picture, OptimaPLUS offers a more comprehensive approach.
It's about broader support because there's more to consider.
Why does OptimaPLUS start with DuoBute and StressTonic?
A horse who's uncomfortable or living with prolonged stress will be finding it harder to settle, until it becomes the sole issue.
Discomfort affects movement, appetite and behaviour, while ongoing stress can influence digestion, rest and general resilience.
So before introducing the wider OptimaCARE programme, we begin with two targeted products to stabilise.
DuoBute provides traditional herbal support for everyday physical comfort, while StressTonic supports the nervous system during periods of prolonged stress.
They're introduced first, then continued alongside the reset programme according to the feeding instructions.
Can I use OptimaPLUS after illness, antibiotics or other veterinary treatment?
Yes – once your horse is stable and your vet is happy for them to begin a nutritional support programme.
Recovery isn't always as straightforward as finishing the medication and returning to normal overnight. Some horses need time to regain their usual appetite, condition, digestive consistency or confidence after a difficult period.
OptimaPLUS offers a structured approach to supporting several of those everyday functions as recovery progresses. But - it isn't intended for acute illness, active laminitis or an undiagnosed problem.
And because DuoBute contains naturally occurring salicylates from Willow Bark and Meadowsweet, it mustn't be combined with anti-inflammatory medication such as phenylbutazone or other NSAIDs without specific veterinary approval.
Let the veterinary treatment do its job. Then consider what nutritional support, if any, would be useful afterwards.
How long does the OptimaPLUS programme take, and do I feed everything together?
It's a structured programme rather than a case of tipping four products into the feed bowl and hoping for the best.
We begin with DuoBute and StressTonic for 2–3 days, allowing your horse to become familiar with them before starting OptimaCARE.
Then we introduce the three OptimaCARE stages in sequence, each lasting 10 feeding days, with a day off between stages.
DuoBute and StressTonic continue alongside the OptimaCARE course as directed.
The programme also includes a trial bag of EquiVita or VitaComplete, according to your horse's feeding circumstances. If their everyday diet needs mineral balancing, there's no reason to wait until the end to put that foundation in place.
Allow a little over a month for the complete sequence, and introduce new products gradually, particularly with sensitive horses.
One stage at a time, with no feedroom juggling act required.
What happens when my horse finishes OptimaPLUS? Will they need to stay on everything?
Not necessarily – and that's the point, because like OptimaCARE, OptimaPLUS is designed as a structured programme, not an invitation to build a permanent collection of supplement tubs.
Once it's finished, we'd review how your horse is doing. If they're comfortable, settled, eating well and looking more like themselves, the priority becomes maintaining the foundations: quality forage, appropriate movement, companionship, a consistent routine, and balanced minerals.
If digestion still needs attention, BiomeTonic or WildFed may have a place, depending on the individual horse.
And if there's a remaining concern, we'd look at that specifically rather than automatically repeating the whole programme.
The best outcome isn't always a horse who needs more supplements - it's a horse who needs fewer reasons for them.
