If your horse has arthritis - or you’ve been told they’re starting to show arthritic change - and they’re feeling stiffer, slower to warm up, or just not moving as freely, that’s usually when we look at JSTTonic.

" I cannot believe the difference in my mare since being on JST Tonic, she's so much freer in her movement and looks so much more comfortable and happy.” Jade S.

When owners hear "arthritis", they're often thinking about the joint itself - but many arthritic horses are actually struggling with far more than that.

For many horses, arthritis isn’t something we fix - it’s something we manage day to day. And what we're dealing with are also the surrounding soft tissues tightening up and the whole joint becoming less comfortable and less functional.

That's why we formulated JSTTonic.

Designed specifically for horses living with arthritic change, it combines carefully selected botanicals and nutrients to support joint collagen, connective tissues, and the wider structures that help horses stay comfortable and mobile.

JSTTonic was originally formulated for exactly this type of horse - in fact, one of our own (our TB mare, Carmen, born with an inward twisting LF hoof/pastern) - where ongoing support for comfort, connective tissue, and freedom of movement became part of daily life. Nearly twenty years later, it's still part of Carms' daily routine and continues to support many other horses navigating the same challenges.

*Pairs beautifully with JointReflexa for comprehensive joint and mobility support.

Overview

Arthritic change is often described as "wear and tear", but that's only part of the story.

Two horses can have very similar arthritic changes on paper, yet one remains comfortable and active while the other struggles much more.

Why?

Because arthritis isn't experienced through an x-ray - it's experienced through the whole body, as the rest of the musculoskeletal structure begins to compensate.

Movement patterns change, muscles tighten, tendons and ligaments take on additional workload - and over time, the body starts adapting around the restriction.

Sometimes it's these secondary changes that owners notice first - the horse that takes longer to warm up, feels stiffer after standing, becomes less willing to bend, or simply doesn't move with the same flow that they once did.

This is why supporting an arthritic horse isn't simply about the joint itself - it's about supporting the wider musculoskeletal system that helps maintain comfort, flexibility, and confidence in movement over the long term.

How JSTTonic fits into your horse's support plan

JSTTonic is a good fit when your horse is showing signs of arthritic stiffness – the kind that comes with wear, compensation, and time.

✔ Known arthritic or degenerative changes affecting movement
✔ Stiff when first moving off, especially after standing in
✔ Takes time to loosen up and move freely
✔ Movement feels shorter, tighter, or slightly uneven
✔ Your horse is comfortable once warmed up, but clearly not as free as before
✔ Older horses who are managing wear and tear but still active
✔ You’re thinking "they’re coping… but they’re definitely feeling it"

In short: if your horse is dealing with day-to-day arthritic stiffness and needs help staying comfortable and moving, JSTTonic is the blend that supports that ongoing ease.

Equally, many of our older or arthritic horses do best on a layered approach – a steady daily foundation, with additional support ready when needed.

For example, Carmen (Carol's mare) is maintained on JSTTonic, JointReflexa, and DuoBute daily, with TriBute kept on hand for the occasional "field hoon" moment when she's clearly enjoyed herself a little too much.

- Building structural support

  • JointReflexa – where deeper support for cartilage, collagen, and joint structures is needed alongside daily comfort.

- Layering comfort (as needed)

  • DuoBute – for additional daily support where stiffness or discomfort is more noticeable.
  • TriBute – for short-term support during tougher days, flare-ups, or increased workload.

This allows support to adapt around your horse – maintaining a steady baseline while responding to changes in comfort or movement.

- Foundation support

Without a solid mineral foundation, even the best joint support can only go so far. Supporting your horse’s baseline nutrition with a forage-based mineral blend such as VitaComplete or EquiVita helps maintain connective tissue strength, recovery, and long-term mobility.

In short

Use JSTTonic as your daily foundation – layer JointReflexa for structural support, and bring in DuoBute or TriBute when extra comfort support is needed.

Energetic architecture - the synergy behind JSTTonic

Energetic Architecture explains how the herbs in a formula are structured to work together in a balanced and purposeful way.

JSTTonic is designed around a simple observation: arthritic horses rarely struggle because of the joint alone. Over time, the surrounding muscles, connective tissues, circulation, and recovery systems all become part of the picture.

Rather than focusing solely on the joint itself, the blend supports the wider musculoskeletal environment.

Functional intent

JSTTonic is designed to support:

  • Connective tissue nourishment and resilience
  • Healthy circulation to joints and surrounding tissues
  • Muscular ease and freedom of movement
  • Metabolic housekeeping and fluid balance
  • Long-term mobility and comfort support

The goal is steady day-to-day support that helps horses maintain ease of movement over time.

Functional categories – joint support in action

  1. Connective tissue nourishment & structural support - Centella asiatica, Rosa canina, Urtica dioica, Avena sativa
    - Supporting the health and resilience of cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules.
  2. Circulatory support & tissue delivery - Crataegus monogyna, Apium graveolens
    Eleutherococcus senticosus
    - Helping maintain healthy blood flow to joints and surrounding tissues, supporting nutrient delivery and overall comfort.
  3. Muscular ease & soft tissue relaxation - Viburnum opulus, Avena sativa
    - Supporting the release of tension in surrounding soft tissues, which often contributes to stiffness and restricted movement.
  4. Metabolic clearance (detoxing) & fluid balance - Arctium lappa, Taraxacum officinale, Urtica dioica
    - Supporting the body’s natural processing of metabolic by-products associated with daily wear and tear.
  5. Adaptive resilience & recovery - Eleutherococcus senticosus
    - Helping the system maintain energy, resilience, and recovery capacity in horses managing ongoing physical demand.

Big picture

We've found that many horses don't necessarily need dramatic intervention every day - they simply do better when they're consistently supported.

Put simply, when the wider musculoskeletal system is supported, the joint rarely has to carry the burden alone.
